God is at work in Peru

God opened an exciting opportunity in Peru to help equip Bible workers (missionaries to their own people) and church leaders in the region surrounding Pucallpa. I had such a delightful time working with Peru Projects and Robert Johnson, another teacher from Canada. Peru Projects is located in the HOT Peruvian jungle along the Ukayali River, which later helps form the Amazon River. They conduct a beautiful work to spread the gospel to the people of the jungles and rivers in the surrounding region through a medical launch, medical aviation, and through training and sending local people to reach their own people for Jesus. The dedication of the Bible workers is amazing! Many of the indigenous missionaries leave their families for 10 weeks at a time to travel far and near to share the love of Jesus, then return for 2 weeks to be with their families, a couple days of further training, and then they go out as missionaries again. Many of the church leaders that attended the training were won to Jesus as a result of their dedicated efforts.

There were over 80 attendees for the program. We shared classes for between 5-7 hours daily. The enthusiasm of the people was almost palpable. As we would share something, or encourage them to make a decision for God, it was often moving to see them raise one or both hands high in the air in assent, with a resounding “AMEN”. I was challenged at times to present the principles with applications that would be most beneficial to their needs, but I felt God’s presence markedly present, and I believe they are going home with knowledge which will keep them healthier and I trust they have also gained a closer friendship with Jesus. The people were SO eager to learn and to implement what they were learning.

I had the privilege to talk with many of the church leaders individually. I was so moved as I heard their testimonies. Many of them reported how this was the first significant training they had undergone in their life, how they had learned SOOOO much, and were so thankful for the training and were eager and excited to share what they had learned with their own people as they returned home. Many of the people traveled between 1-7 days by boat, and one had hiked 18 days by foot, plus one day by boat and car to come! As I listened to the story of the attendees, it touched my heart deeply. I was so humbled to be used by God to help equip these humble, enthusiastic, dedicated sons of the jungle with tools to help them minister more effectively to their families, villages, and churches. I am sure they would be most grateful for your prayers as they continue to share the good news of a soon-coming Savior.
